More ipods and telephones should be the source of positive inspiration rather than inspiring our kids to believe more and more in this virtual world and become indifferent to what is around them. Unfortunately we are learning too often of the many who lost their lives or take lives because of the direct and indirect use of these gadgets.

I had hoped to write and submit something special for this worthy cause. You see, for years I had been advocating that a church or organization should do something similar. May be I could have been that someone, but great to know, it has already been done, started I mean and is visiting the many countries. I hope to hear some good things from Follow The Bible.

Letting the Word be as available as is should be

Lord says training the children influences their destiny

One section of His Word if read daily in one year

Will finish the Bible and a better way prepare

Teaching each youngster to lead a positive Christian life

His principles if follow will lead us from strife

Each of the 66 Books are in Multilanguage under one cover

Bringing God’s Word to His people the world over

In the Philippians this initiative started on Oct 11, 2008

Life principles by introducing Bible read, its study and following its way

Just reconnected with and old friend on FaceBook and can scarcely believe the numbers of year that have passed. I saw that his kids have grown and are themselves now of age. Wow! And he was grey. Imagine, Bruce that had such jet black hair back then now had a highlight of grey which threatens to be soon the other ways around. But the thing I remember most about this friend is his family. No doubt all families have their own challenges but this family to this public was perfect. Happy Birthday Bruce!

I wonder about dreaming, can I truly achieve the things I dream of. I have been dreaming of some thing when I was very young and it made no real sense pursuing them. Yet, sometimes when I sit and daydream of some things they seem more real. I thought of so many things in these day dreams that are now a reality. In fact, in my mind the digital age came about years before it was renaissance and computers were used decades before.

I had a dream that one day

Flying through the clouds will be our way

You wouldn’t need apparatus or machine

Only your God given body no Red Bull or caffeine

Under blue skies I will soar

Clouds in my face and new places explore

A dream that repeats regularly

Nights when I dream of flying my days have more glee

Dreaming at night may not be the same

Realizing your dreams are ideas you tame

Every idea that you were able to conceive

An Audacity of Hope cause you chose to believe

International Day For Women

There is great celebration in my heart today and this is largely because it is that time of year I get to think of all the women pass and present who have done great things to shape individuals and communities. I was recently introduced to a religion that recognizes the importance of women and their role to educate the young and I fully endorse their belief

International Day For Women

I am woman watch me roar

Numbers have grown, we’re better than before

There are women in all walks of life, some ruling cities

Even have women in charge of countries with no royalties

Regardless to who you are a woman once tended you

Nurtured your ambition, your skills and character too

A woman may be generally weaker in frame but what of this

There are so many other areas of strength in women that exists

I am woman, I am strong and invincible

Organizations failed that treated women less than man’s equal

No job is too big or idea too small

A woman values and considers them all

Ladies refined and ladies with an edge

Doesn’t matter the type, they will equally pledge

All they have to ensure their child’s safety

You’ll never find a women to lack such charity

Faced with torture , abuse and discrimination

Only women rose above these to be the best in their Nation

Rose more equipped, to be even stronger

Were tested for years but they need be tested no longer

Oh, yes, I’m wise but it’s wisdom born of pain

My brothers still don’t realize what through it all I’ve gained

Even though I’ve come a long way and garnered great integrity

Not yet am I completed, the Lord’s not finished with me

International Women’s Day

I didn’t even know that some countries treat International Women’s Day as a holiday. I think women should be recognized for the contribution they make especially in a world that treats them as unequally. Even in the most democratic country, the USA, women still have problem being paid equal wages for equal work done. I see women that work harder than they male counterparts earning about 70% of the male’s wages.

In our lives they are many Women who

Never gave up striving for Women’s Rights too

They recognize the polarity in the work place

Equality has been a focus but our standards are disgrace’

Radio host today even featured a man who

Notoriously advocated a stone standard too

Advocating that women should walk behind

Their male spouse to show they are a subordinate kind

I can’t believe that in these modern days

Our males have people who still think these ways

Not even ashamed he spoke of women who should bow

And observe his discriminate exploitation some how

Ladies worked hard and still work hard too

Wages are disproportionate for the men’s work they do

Our women have been physically and morally abused

Many have raised our children by standards used

Every positive role by women should be applauded by society

No celebration here for what they have done for you and me

So many teachers, nurses, mothers, the lot

Do their best to ensure our children are the best we got

And through women, heads in society and professionals are their way

You must not forget to celebrate International Women’s Day

When I studied Ecology I fell in love with the concept of perfect balance. I even saw how it was possible to have a fish live in a completely sealed container, this amazed me but it makes perfect sense. The thing about a good healthy relationship is the more external influences it has the less stable it is. Put two people on a deserted island and regardless to their initial feelings were, they tend to grow more and fonder of each other.

Any day will present itself in a way that is generally out of your control. I write this and I remember the many movies with rain dancers who through their songs ware able to influence the weather. The fact is, who ever has contact with the Lord Almighty can influence the weather. But what about influence the internal climate. Recently they were lots of dark clouds.

Not at all, this guy can’t pass for 50 years, the big Five Zero, he hardly looks a day over 30. It is so hard that this strong and spirited guy is this old. He has demonstrated how to live. The last time I saw him he was showing off his lasted kid, a baby only last year and he was as happy as a young man in his twenties. I wish my friend a very happy birthday today.

The Moore Family

I learnt of the passing of the sister of my very close friend. In fact, all her sisters and family we like family to me. When we spoke to each other we always show the respect of family with the love and belonging. This sister was the meekest of all the girls and so soft spoken you almost had to beg her to shout in a normal conversation. I loved her and celebrate her life and wish all her love ones, the family and friends.

She used to order the same thing every time she went for fast food, especially when she was pregnant. My friend has a best friend that she continues to speak of like they are still buddies, like no time has ever come between them, even after these 25 years or more. It is really great to have these long lasting friends

Cut And Dry Guy

Ossie Moore is a man of few talents and carpentry wasn’t one. When I heard that Ossie worked as a carpenter on the corner house that was being built in the neighborhood, indeed I was surprised. But of course as the story continued, more became familiar

Cut And Dry Guy

Carpentry was not his first calling nor was it his last

Unable to find a forte he changed vocations fast

There was an opening when some carpentry work came in

And so Ossie showed up with his tool belt, ready to start working

Now the foreman saw Ossie looking and able bodied man

Didn’t question Ossie’s abilities and Ossie began

Doing everything they gave him like an expert

Raised the power saw and when it dropped below shout “Any body hurt?”

You got to be more careful the foreman said there was blood everywhere

Got to get a bag with some ice to put in yah ear

Unable to under, Ossie replied, foreman you must admit

Yah wrong! Dah ‘aint my ear, my ear had a pencil behind it!

She Fainted At Home

Ossie Moore got married? That was the first reaction I had and those I told this joke about Ossie had too. The last listener asked who would marry Ossie Moore. The lady that was described in this joke was a very devoted wife. So like they say “Evah piece uh cloth got its owner”

She Fainted At Home

So much work she would find to do

Had the usual cleaning by day and by night she cleaned too

Even though they had been married now for over a year

Flooring needed work, side boards replaced, much was in disrepair

And Ossie was lucky to have her as wife

It was a shock to the neighbors that they had no strife

No quarrels, no fuss, she worked and cooked faithfully

The house though old and dropping down was kept immaculately

Early one morning before work could start

Darling faithful wife dropped unconsciously while clenching her heart

And Ossie called 911, “Muh wife faint! Wunnah cuh send ah ambulance hey?”

The man asked a few questions, then asked Ossie “Wha is the address dey?”

He said, “Send the ambulance to 1^st Ave. Rendezvous Terrace!”

Ok the man replied, “But spell Rendezvous and the EMFs wuh be at your place!”

My friend is such a good faith companion yet when she thinks of time up ahead; I sense a greater preparedness for the worst. Some people peek to the back of the book to learn how it ends to avoid any emotional trauma and suspense. And there are those people who don’t mind seeing the end of the movie first, again to avoid the unforeseen surprise, well my friend I plans for the worst so that if things turn out better then at least there is no pain. I say, Lord thine will be done!

In remembrance of a shining light that guide3 the way for thousands directly and through her children. Eulees Verona Farley was the mother of 10 children, one of whom died as a baby and another who passed away just recently as an adult. Many of those who came into regular contact with her know of her unfading devotion which grew stronger as she watched the spiritual growth of her own children. In fact, her daughter the Apostle Dr. Lucille Baird speak of how in her frail self she still whispered the ending of Psalm 121 every time she had to leave, especially on trip overseas. In her mind she was may be described as the First Prayer Warrior, and to us who can only know her life from the distant, she set the example that make our earthly journey easier and growing in the spirit rewarding. We put people in prison for miscellaneous crimes that are often as trivial as stealing a package of biscuits yet families are disrupted by infidelities that are not punishable by law.

Every day Ossie worked and not without some mêlée

Domestic pet owners threaten to beat Ossie one day

Early on mornings he report to the Vet

And sorted medicines for each client’s pet

Dogs were walked but were never bathed clean

Kept an eye on the office and would often pretend

And Ossie said the duck is dead, must have been hit by a truck

But she wasn’t satisfied so Ossie went for a brown Labrador

Used it to sniff and later a cat and they said the duck dead fah sure

It took a while before Blacks were able to drive on the same buses as whites and even longer for them to sit dispersed in the bus amongst the Whites. Rosa Parks was popularized for the position she took by not getting out of her seat to give it to a White man in the bus. She was jailed and a boycott of the buses by Blacks and sympathetic whites soon followed. The following has no direct relationship with the bus rides but is a clear show of misguided minds

For sometime he had rehearsed, now on the final week

The expectant night of Valentine’s can bring great comfort. Lots of lovers discuss what they might do but love is best surprised by the playful lies we tell to mislead love ones into their peaceful certainties and then to lay the surprise on them.

Our Valentine’s Night

Once we were dressed we were ready

Under a Moonlit night and a barn’s canopy

Radio was set to a selection we had made

Various old crooners, their old songs we played

And we got served our delightful wish

Lots of crayfish and oysters made the dish

Especially good was the dessert that followed

Nuts sprinkled on chocolate in strawberries that were hollowed

Then we danced to the old familiar tunes

I hummed to the lyrics that Frank croons

Nat King Cole played and the recently deceased Telly

Even heard Brian McKnight, Luther and old Andy

Soon the mood was perfect and we droved away

Night was a success, still there was something we may

I felt the love pierced me in the eyes

Got a feeling in my stomach like butterflies

How perfect if I could hear what I waited all day to hear

Then finally the words – a great pause – and a joyful tear

Romance is generally celebrated with the traditional stuff like the chocolates, strawberries, the sexy lingerie, the special candle lit dinners, but there was one story that caught my attention recently, “The Apple Of My Eye.” This reference to the eye’s apple goes back really far and in the Bible it was a show of the fragility of a relationship and the need to give utmost attention to its safety.

I see the number of people who parade through town and the streets in the traditional reds and whites and the number of people buying special stuff to celebrate this special night then I wonder what happen to the love that we never share with those so close but so far? I think of the next door neighbor that I never speak with, the workers on my commute to the job, the car park attendant, the times I sat in the bus and never spoke to those around. If we could spread a little more love to these people then we would play our part at making this world a better place.

Expected a miracle, their lives with Isaac, to be blessed

On her husband she had trusted but now she could believe

Faith in the Word, in the promise that she will conceive

Old loves can still promise hope like Abraham promised his wife

Are we too caught up with red when others are in the red? When red flows in the streets and when there is no abating the suffering. How can we feel comfortable spending so much unnecessary money as a measure of our love when love is an expression of the heart and needs no monetary or tangible additions? I heard of the amount that was spent on the opening of the winter Olympics and the amount we recently spent on a vehicle for the Governor General and they both touch a nerve the wrong way.

The Ear Conditioning

Was I hearing right or do my ear need conditioning. I don’t believe that this is what they do; Taxi men charging an extra if you use the air-conditioning. Well what next? It seems to me that they will soon be calculating how much brake fluid is used going down hill as opposed to uphill and gas too. Uphill rates may then be different to downhill and soon the number of bends in route.

Taxi man got me confused

He’s saying that those who used

Extras in his vehicle paid more

Even the air-conditioning when they closed his door

Are we no longer paying for the trip here to there

Running up a tab for select distances anywhere

Can he expect his fares to pay for his upkeep

Overhauling, services, gas maybe where he goes to sleep

No! I think not! When another Taxi get a flat

Does the taxi man increase rates to offset that

If there was an accident and the vehicle needs a fix

Taxi men, do they adjust rates, target fares in the mix

I do not think we should pay

On the cost of up keep or the add-ons that may

Nebulously affect each individual fare

Impossible to determine gas, brake fluid, air-con required repair

No, taxi men should be paid standard but receive TIPS

I remember him very well at school and I know that he has become a very active worker and community person. A Tribute To Phyllis Ellis

A dear friend passed away and although her time seemed predictably close, I can’t help but feel a great lost. She and I saw less and less of each other because our illnesses kept us a part but there was a time when we got regular morning talks in person and when not in person, we used the telephone. She was a quiet person and raised her kids with hardly a loud voice. In fact, I don’t remember ever hearing noise, a quarrel or screams from her home. Her kids are the most generous of friends, like their mom, they jump to help. I will miss this dear and loving friend but embrace the life we shared.

A Tribute To Phyllis Ellis

A gentle but radiant light was blown out yesterday

There was darkness when our beloved friend passed away

Remorsefulness came though we tried to prepare

It still tugged at the insides, still brought a tear

Because of her kind temperament we called her Ma

Used her wise guidance, she never said a condescending aha

Though many times she was proven to be right

Every time she offered her advice of the way we might

Take measures to correct the way things turned out

Our Ma never raised her voice, she would never shout

People who looked on will remember her generosity

Her saying yes to any request was almost always a guarantee

Yes rolled from Ma’s lips to friend or foe

Lived charitably, gave generously and hardly said no

Looking out on mornings you’d see as her grandson droved away

Intense love and best wishes for him each day

She checked and double checked that all was well

Every morning devotedly her love showed and you could tell

Lots of times, when she was able she would come to our gate

Learnt to stop bad from turning worst to stop things that couldn’t wait

It was humbling to know Ma and from her spirit we all knew

She dwelt in love; God is love, thus she dwelt in God and God in her too

BIM - Barbados Island Memories

When I wrote the book on Barbados Island Memories , I was reminiscing of good old Barbados, where I grew up. Once before we were scared to walk through neighborhood only because of the threat of dogs, now there is much more to be afraid of. And instead of nipping it in the bud we are watching as we gradually lose all semblance of good old Barbados. I do not agree that young people can take over, all young people have adults that they were once answerable to and those adult had and probably still have the key to make it right. How come there always seem to be a mother crying in the streets when someone has been shot dead?

We Say Cancer Can Be Prevented Too

Today is World Cancer Day and as my dad commented this morning, with all the sending men to the moon, the internet and cellular phone, you would think that Cancer would be less of a problem. There is much debate on whether the researchers really want to find a cure and then lose the feedbacks they get from the big businesses whose interest is better serve if they always remain a percentage of people ailing.

We Say Cancer Can Be Prevented Too

World Cancer Day and what should we say

Eliminate the threat of Cancer through the way

So many of us live, indifferent that we

Are exposing ourselves to this threat daily

Yesterday I took him on a precautionary check

Couldn’t pin down his ailment, he was not a total wreck

And it was hard to get him to go but I felt the change

No more could he climb our stairs as fast and this was strange

Cough the doctor said as he probe to investigate

Exhale he said, hold it again, he tapped his knee and said wait

Results came too quickly we were both unprepared

Cancer! What do you mean? I never smoked, never cared

And the doctor asked about his friends and the club

Never did he thought of the side stream from the pub

But it was clear when the doctor told him it was there

Exposure every weekend in every year

Pointless now it seemed, that he had otherwise lived healthy

Regular exercise and eating the right things routinely

Except the results said he was now too late

Very many like him neglected and suffered a similar fate

Exercising is important and eating the right stuff too

No excessive alcohol, no smoking and be sure that you

Take the time to have regular checks but with all this

Environs contribute to a great percentage of the cancer that exists

Detection early helped him but we learned that for better protection

Take more interest in infections and spend fewer hours in the sun

Only then can you fight off these threats on you

Once we do this then Cancer Can Be Prevented Too

Martin was not a personal friend but ton me he was the younger brother to a boy from school who was like a brother. Combermerians acted like siblings with each other and what is yours is mine. I feel the lost of this younger brother who died at 5:50am this morning Feb 04, 2010 and I offer my deepest sympathies to Derek and the rest of the Martin’s family and friends.

An old schoolmate of ours was pronounced dead

Ripples not in the earth’s crust still we stumble on our feet

The news of his untimely passing makes his life seem incomplete

I think not though cause while here he built his legacy
