On Children

A short Acrostic Poem to celebrate the birthday of a friend who appreciates the writings of the prophet Kahlil Gibran. Today the radio host reminds us this is September a time to remember and I choose to remember Sonia today and hope that she has a very good Birthday and many, many more to come.

On Children

One lady with a child to her bosom asked Kahlil Gibran

Now tell us of children if you can

Children the prophet said are not really your own

He said they are the sons and daughters of Life’s longings for its own

It’s for you to give love but don’t give your thoughts too

Let their bodies dwell at home but their souls cannot be with you

Don’t strive to make them like you come what may

Remarking “life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday”

Even as the archer loves the arrow [children] that flies

Notice he loves a stable bow [you] and aims for the skies
