The Old Scruffy Man

I tried to lay back to rest but couldn’t then this acrostic came to me. It was flowing from my finger tips as if somehow familiar. I have often seen the plights of others; have felt their pain and now this poor old scruffy man has overwhelmed me. He was so full of life but now so lost

The Old Scruffy Man

There under the bridge where it’s cold and damp

Having no cover against freezing winds no remedies for cramp

Each day opens with a ray of hope

Opens to all around but to him, nope

Life is unkind and cruel because he

Didn’t get his only chance for matrimony

She copped out on him and turned away

Cancelled all plans for their wedding day

Right then he was torn and fell from grace

Under the bridge was his refuge, his recluse place

Friends seek him out but they would never recognize

Features now distorted by pain and the sadness in his eyes

You’d never believe he once was the happiest man

Making others happy was his motto, “Yes We Can!”

And now all expectations left that day with his beautiful bride

Now he lives under the bridge and all hope has died

Why did she cop out? Where is she now? Check the park. maybe she is there on a bench wondering what happened to the joy she once had as well.
