I Smiled Today, Did You?

With all that is around me, there is reason withdraw myself from the day and wallow in my sorrow and pain and to be distraught that the only happiness is yanked away mercilessly with no indicators of returning.  The day grows more humid and I have to face it.

I Smiled Today, Did You?

In the heat of this humid day

Sunshine shooing the rain clouds away

My mood was first to frown that we

In all this can no longer go to the sea

Laugh together on Hills afar

Engage our best humor wherever we are

Drive through the countryside again

Talk to flowers bowed from the rain

On this sunny day when all is dry

Don’t know that we’ll be together, you and I

And don’t know how long you will wait for me

Yesterday was like a good-bye, today like an eternity

Dust blows and I see the heat

It crawls like a serpent across the street

Drops of perspiration fall to the ground

You can hear them sizzle as they fall down

One drop falls and I remembered happy tears too

Used to cry with joy and love and I Smiled Today, Did You?
