Spectrum Possibilities Charity

Sadness overcame them when they heard the doctors say

People are understanding more about autism today

Except us doctor, why don’t we?

Couldn’t this ASD choose some other baby

Their child was only 3 years old and they

Read the signs early and spent no delay

Used “well child” tests then a litany of screens

Multidisciplinary doctors who explained what it means

Problems like social interaction - the way the child interacts

Or how verbal and non-verbal communication reveal salient facts

Sometimes it’s their repetitive behavior or the interest they show

Shy to cuddle, make no eye contact and no affection to who they know

Infants with ASD may become rigid and limp to your touch

Being picked up may make them cry, they don’t like smiles or hugs very much

In autistic children these symptoms range from mild to severe

Listlessness, lagging behind others with time and unexplained fear

In 10% of cases, autistic children may have an extraordinary ability

They may excel in Mathematics, arts, music or skills with memory

If they do then they are described as autistic savants

Education of others generally comes with routines and chants

Should have early intensive intervention in optimal environments

Careful settings 2 years during preschool have recorded improvements

Healing may require treating high sensitivities

A texture, sound, smell, taste, to any of these

Recently they learned more than they ever wanted to know

It was horrific news they thought, life had dealt them a severe blow

Today they have discovered a Spectrum of Possibilities

You mustn’t give up, I’m autistic, 6 years and living with much greater ease
