Lena Horne – Stormy Weather
Long ago before I was born Every one knew of the spectacular Lena Horne New York was her homeland but she Alit borders spreading for the World to see
How beautiful she sung and with her tantalizing dance Our Troops in World War 11 converged for a chance Riflemen in the army, Blacks and POWs from Germany Never refused to take up the opportunity Except where she sung she declined if they segregated
Soldiers by race or creed, she showed she wanted That all be equal even then with obvious Civil Unrest On the stages in battle zones she showed passive protest Rains pour now, and I remember Lena Horne My dad sings Stormy Weather to nostalgically mourn Youthful memories of being lifted by his dad
Watching him sing the song, knee high only but the fun he had Every time without fail the song bellows through the air And when I saw the movie, I appreciated more the cheer This 1943 movie took the world by a “Storm” Her beautiful voice and how on-screen she would perform Exquisite was this star whose light faded May 9, on Sunday morn Rains Stormed their Weather as Family and Friends cried for Lena Horne
