I Can’t Shut The Door

Some times the wind comes suddenly and we rushed to close the doors and windows. I remember when I was very young how I rushed outside to pick up my aunts clothes from the line when the rain started. I have many times in my mind when I was able to run from the rain but now I can’t but worse now, I can scarcely get up fast enough to close the windows and with the latch where it is I can’t shut the door

I Can’t Shut The Door

It was windy out

Clouds were dark about

And the threatening rain

Neared the strength of a hurricane

The door was open but I could not

Stretch to reach that closure spot

Had no way of reaching it, I wasn’t tall enough

Unable to avoid the inclement weather I braced to tough

The threat and then the wind blew in

There were objects being tossed and ornaments breaking

Had a special porcelain heart that dropped and broke

Emotions were stifled, I never spoke

Didn’t see it possible to do anything now

Open doors will cause great destruction if we allow

Outside inside and never monitoring

Rains and winds from their untimely intruding
