Sweet Brass In The Morning

When we studied music back in the day we were taught that a Saxophone, although it had a brassy, conical body it was still a member of the reed family and should not therefore be considered as one of the brass instruments.

The thing is, though this is so, many brass bands include a Sax and gradually it is being treated like family. I think to be on steady ground we might call it a horn.

Sweet Brass In The Morning

Say it isn’t so

We must know

Even though it has the conical brass body

Each Saxophone belongs to another musical family

Tenor Sax blowing it’s max

Bass Sax with few listed facts

Relatively new Soprano Sax with its Kenny G debut

Alto Sax the most popular solo Sax we knew

Such a great lineup such a smooth sound

Shivers are certain, Turo’s playing is profound

I listen to the brass

Numbers played with class

The old tunes and old bands

Had my emotions at their commands

Every piece one after the other lively

Memories of years ago came back to me

Olden days when I imagine I could

Reach their skills and tortured my neighborhood

Now I rather just sit back and hear

Instruments blowing their magic through the air

No confusion, when the sax was created by Mr. Adolphe, he

Gave it a reed to make it part of the Reed Family
