She stumbled in
despondently All teary and sobbing, she’d
hurt her knee Didn’t see my teen, I
remembered when she was four Excruciating screams when
she burst through the door Fell then too and back then,
I was quick to leap Ended her pain and putted
her bed to sleep Lullabies to close her eyes
and the eucalyptus scent Lulled her to tranquility
and off to sleep she went All the while I watched my
girl and knew Nothing could befall her
that I wouldn’t mend too Dangers might lurk across
the hall Her balance might be lost
and she might fall Unforeseen troubles around
the bend Really dangerous problems
with no foreseeable end Then I promised there as she
was fast asleep How I would watch over her
and that she need never weep Evasive tactics I would
teach her for life ahead Read no more story tales to
her but read the Bible instead Keep her well educated about
the vices of men No drugs, promiscuousness,
no alcohol, so when Eyes came red with
intoxication, I mended her busted knee Except, I didn’t know how to
show her any empathy |
