Joy To This World

Just the other day some men passed through my gap

Old and slow and grunted “Good morning young chap!”

Yesterday a youngster passed sporting current fads

Then pulling an iphone from his ears he said “Hey dads!”

Only a few days had passed, had I aged this much

These unusual salutations make me out of touch

Heard some infants passing this morning

I listened closely to what they were singing

Something out of season and barely recognizable

Words lost in translation and la la was all they were able

One good thing I noted, they were on the right track

Really politely they said “Good morning sir!” and I waved back

Learning manners at an early age is like finding wisdom early

Dads” and “Young chap” can be very disconcerting to me
