Punishing The Sick

I have written before about the local hospital called the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Q.E.H or as the Bajans always say the QE. There are good and successful stories about the QE but this is what we believe we deserve and therefore when we get it, we don’t feel terribly overwhelm except, nowadays, good treatment at the QE is so exceptional that when anyone experiences it, they scream the praises. Unfortunately the poor treatment and seeming lack of concern for patients continue long after discharge. The experiences of the outpatients are very threatening.

Punishing The Sick

Patients are at the QE

Unable to take much more of the cruelty

None of them complaining but in their eyes

I could see them complying with their demise

Sick and grateful just to be seen

Have the doctor just ask them how have you been

I see them climb flights of stairs

Notice the gasps in between and their uncertainty fears

Going along lengths of corridors

They rock, drag, limp and shuffle through horrors

Having walked the length until they finally arrive

Exhausted they have no chairs, it’s a wonder they stay alive

Shameful arrangement to give the old and sick care

It’s been going on year after year

Couldn’t they if they want to make clinic more available

Keep it downstairs where the sick finds it readily accessible
