The Birthday Party

Of all the Ossie Moore jokes I found so far this one made me laugh the loudest. I think though that some understand of Bajan culture and expressions should be understood. If you do not get a good belly laugh from this one or you didn’t understand it, drop me a note and I’ll try to explain it. I am not the authority on Bajan things but this one I think I understood.

The Birthday Party

This fellow was stumbling outside a rum shop

He was drunk and disorderly and Ossie begged him to stop

Everyone else out there was cheering him on

But Ossie was not amused and wanted them gone

It was the fellow’s birthday and he wanted to celebrate

Rum and coke was the cheapest drink and it tasted great

They encourage the fellow with an old Irish song

He enjoyed the attention and with them sung along

Do wid a drunken sailor, what do yah do?

And then he told Ossie , now you join in too

Young chap, tell me, how old do you think I am today

Proud he appears younger, he was shock by what Ossie had to say

And how you manage’ to guest correct that I was 48

Real easy sir, cause uh de ruckus you does create

Tek my bruddah, sometimes he is a real nut

Yah see I figuh my bruddah is 24 and he is half-uh-idiot!
