If you ever go to show that present Bajan talent you know how in awe I was when I discovered how gifted our people are. It is easy to recognize talent when others have already done so but how many of you can see the greatness before it is acknowledged. We must not turn away new talent because it hasn’t yet been recognized. Stop and ask yourself how you really feel about your experience. Did this new talent please you? If it did, will it also please your friends and family? Ask yourself, how is it that foreigner recognized the talent in Rihanna long before we did? Every new talent may have emerging stardom waiting to break its shell.

I saw the artists’ masterpieces at the corner of the street

Noticed youngsters dancing to our unusual beat

Saw impressive carvings from stone in my neighbor’s patio

Pottery adorn homes of many people where I go

I listen to the skillful rhythm poetry

Refrains from Calypsonians of things in society

Enjoy refreshing concoctions of drinks from local fruits

Delight in the hot beverage made from leaves and roots

Entertainers have long made international success

‘Xcellence by sportsmen and our intellectual prowess

All our people have grown in diverse skills

Learnt to express their passions and in our valleys and hills

Throughout this small island talents abound

In every district new skills are found

New ideas implemented and gifts we realize

Going around this little island can be a wonderful surprise

For all those living here but in their minds drift abroad

Rihanna’s roots are here and the world she awed

Everyone has a talent that will determine who they’ll be

Enjoy yours dear Bajan, be Inspired, Exulting, Free
