In Strength And Unity

I found many ways to enhance my life on the beautiful gem of an island. I remember hearing the story of how we are now self efficient still I see great dependence on the outside world. I got to learn that the independence we achieve gives us the right to chose and I respect that right. But we can learn much more from the other aspects of Barbados. If we stick to this brick path then we are well on the road to strength and unity.

In Strength And Unity

Independence was attained in 1966, 30th November

National ties to England and the Union Jack we sever’

Sovereignty was celebrated and thanks to Irving Burgie

The lyrics of the National Anthem were written magnificently

Roland Edwards arranged music that makes the Anthem great

Every time I hear the brass section I feel to celebrate

Barbados has the best Anthem you can ever hear

Great words and music, there is none that can compare

The Flag has equal vertical bands, a gold center flanked with blue

Have a black, broken trident, with lots of meaning too

At the left blue sky, the gold sand and right blue, the sea

Notice the 3 points of the Trident, the principles of Democracy

Democracy to have a Government of, for and by Bajans

Under our own laws, ordinances and local restrictions

National growth has been centered on this treasure we idealize

I’ve seen the power in the Anthem and the Flag with my own eyes

The roundabouts and cities lit on each Anniversary

Young and old, all churches and races, living In Strength And Unity
