Firm Craftsmen Of Our Fate

We are so diverse a people we have greats in almost every lifestyle. There is not any great hooray about those who have not become celebrities and only recently we have started recognizing the unsung heroes in the land. The fact is that Bajans are special, they are a very skillful people, produced highly academic brains, have earn their places in the world of sport through the likes of Earl Maynard, Darcy Beckles, Manga Phillips, Sir Garry, Suki, Obadelle Thompson, Ryan Brathwaite and many others and long list of Entertainers.

Firm Craftsmen Of Our Fate

Forefathers sowed the seeds from which great Bajans grew

Individuals who perfected their callings, some in my lifetime too

Reaping the best because they chose to press

More than others to attain greatness

Cricketing greats like the 3W’s and Sir Garry

Reached international fame and brought eyes to our country

Alfred got a part in the movie, Tamarind Seed

For us he was a great actor, broadcaster, comedian, a rear breed

Turo was just a young clarinetist when I first knew him

Soon afterwards he was playing Alto Sax and was - prim

Merrymen got the world listening to the music from our shores

Every tourist flocked to see them during their Caribbean tours

Now many of you know of weight lifter Manga and body man Darcy

Oba the sprinter, Ryan the hurdler and draughts champion Suki

Fewer know of Johnno who was a great in local cricket

One innings he scored a 100 and bowl out 9, wicket after wicket

Under all our noses a young international great sprung

Rihanna won a Grammy and other awards for the songs she sung

From when he was a tall, lanky school boy he told me he’d be

A Prime Minister of Barbados and now, All Hail, Thompy!

They all showed with the right frame of mind you can be great

Every one showed us how we can be, Firm Craftsmen Of Our Fate!
