Fighting Phantoms

The arguments come one after the other yet when you think about what you were quarrelling, there is no traces of the disturbance. I think that people get so used to quarrelling that where there is nothing, they make something up in there minds and therefore fix their addiction to argue. Then they are others who are so caught or were so bitten in the past that they become overly cautious. Relationships are built on trust and faith

Fighting Phantoms

From very early in a relationship doubts may reside

In your heart, distress, causing turmoil inside

Ghost problems that do not exist

Have a way of convincing true love to resist

They destroy loves today because of past loves’ mishaps

Innocents lovers are snagged in their web of traps

New lovers not trusting because of the serpent’s bite

Giving up at the first suspicion that all is not right

Problems not yet arrived discussed as though

High walls must be erected to cushion their blow

And danger where there is none is fought tirelessly

No one understanding the other side of the story

This overly cautious effort to protect yourself

Only destroys true love and with it emotional health

Mishaps past are past and old wounds you mustn’t lick

Stop Fighting Phantoms with your old love’s yard stick
