Yah Hear Dis One ‘Bout Ossie

Ossie Moore is the name that preceded almost all of my child jokes. People gathered all around to hear the humorous stories of this true life Bajan character that was depicted far dumber than he really was. We have lost most of these little Ossie Moore jokes over time since they no longer pass around in typical families. Two few people appreciate this kind of humor anymore. Ossie was the Chaplin of our time.

Yah Hear Dis One ‘Bout Ossie

Yeah I tell yah dah is the sun

And I say you are wrong, we better run

How do you expect to see the sun when we were here long after noon

Had hours of drinks in there, that’s got to be the moon

Every body knows the sun is up dey

And they also know that’s where the moon does stay

Right but de moon dus neveh come out dis early

Don’t fool yourself, the moon gets up earlier than we

I once went to the beach and in the blue skies

Saw the moon big and full, couldn’t believe my eyes

On that day the sun shone to the left, the moon to the right

Night had long gone, it was day light

Eyes can deceive yah man regularly

But I can’t afford to let them deceive me

Once the two men got to a bus stop

Uh gun ask dah man dey that using the pole as he prop

Then they approached the man very slowly

Ossie was by this bus stop and had looked mannerly

Skipper, we want you to settle this

See dah thing up dey in the sky, wah is dah, tell Chris

I wish I knew, that I might settle your despair

Either the moon or the sun but sorry, I don’t live down here!
