| That Binds Our Hearts From Coast To Coast He realized the gray in my hair and the tremor in my feet And I remembered years ago when I too was small The days I stopped by the old people’s home, to visit with all Bajans say good morning when I go to the bus stop I see the heads turn to say hello in the district shop No one is silent for long after they get a smile Distress is tucked aside then, if only for a while She saw I was in a hurry and at the cashier said come through One act of kindness from someone I never even knew Using the equipment was new to me but a co-worker came by Realized my dilemma and showed me how then said, now you try He saw I was short of change and said no don’t go Emptied his pocket on the counter and I didn’t have to owe A lady offered me shelter and walked me to my car Rain was pouring and she didn’t mine that my car was so far The road was unsure so I asked the guys on the block to help me See the yellow house, one said, head there then turn by the tree Frightened by my collision with him and didn’t know what to do Relaxed by his calm demeanor and his understanding too One bad turn in life lead me on a difficult path My friends never gave up on me, at my status, never laughed Organized for me to meet others and took me every where A friend encouraged me to sign up on Face Book So many other Bajans found me in the six days that I took There is a special thing about Bajans where ever I go That makes them loyal to other Bajans, I’m glad there are so Overseas in countries though you are far away Can expect them to recognize you by the things you say Our people are recognized by their familiar traits A Bajan they say will be recognized at the Pearly Gates So whatever we Bajans become these traits are the same, almost That Binds Our Hearts From Coast To Coast
