Of What It Has Withstood

Recently we had many disasters that brought this country to shocking halts to recheck our readiness to deal with the levels of disturbances and lost of lives that these tragedies can cause. This all happened in the space of two years and this country has recorder over 300 years. What other major calamities have visited this island. We may not know but what we do know is that we overcame all that has past and we still look forward to a bright future.

Of What It Has Withstood

One day before Independence Day just two years ago

Feet scampered as the island took a blow

We experienced tremors from seismic activity

Had many scared of this impending tragedy

Arch Cot before had a major disaster

This Brittons Hill community was at the fate of the master

It was only one family that met its demise

Though thousands felt the pain of the nation’s cries

Hardly expected while on the way for fun

A day at the East Coast to frolic in the sun

So tragic as a bus overturned and many died

We mourned together, together our nation cried

I know many other tragedies that brought many tears

They stretch far back and spanned many years

How ever we got shattered we never broke

Survival was in our peoples’ blood and it spoke

There is no boast to our neighbors, no bragging that we

Overcame the worst tragedy

Our people survived lots as we built each neighborhood

Dear Lord this country makes no boast Of What It Has Withstood
