Cleaner In The Church Yard

This morning when I was returning from the beach I saw the little lady who keeps my mother’s church, spotlessly clean. It has to be especially difficult to clean the Church Yard because it has trees around it, a nearby shop and is on the highway. With all the challenges to do her work, she smiles through it all. Recently she had an unusual challenge.

Cleaner In The Church Yard

Careful attention and so willingly

Leaves are removed and she smiled at me

Eyes beaming, she’s bending, her body seems fit

And this work has become a welcomed habit

No plastic bottles or cups or blown debris

Ever get a days opportunity

Refuse is constantly swept away

I see the yard kept tidy each day

Now I looked again at the cleaner

This little lady with her peaceful demeanor

Her smile had been taken four times before

Each time a family member was no more

Close family in succession departed

Her aunt was first when her bereavement started

Unusual timing later took her mother away

Remorse again came to her that day

Church family supported her and the strength came again

However her brother died soon and this brought new pain

Yet another brother died in quick succession

All this grief, four falling so soon one after one

Repentance has been the source of her infallible way

Dear Lord she is smiling as she worked today
