Charlie The Crime Stopper

There has been a marked effort on the island to bring better awareness to the youth so as to put a halt on the rising incidence of crime. As such the NTFCP – National Task Force for Crime Prevention launched their program in October 2006 and have annually held promotions to reach the Primary School students. It is this kind of effort that I laud and wish I could help in some way. The following Acrostic Poem was sent to the Crime stoppers in hopes that it can bring some awareness.

Charlie The Crime Stopper

Children listen to Charlie

He’s the mascot from the NTFCP

And today he wants to teach you about crime

Reasons why you should obey the law, all of the time

Listen carefully and you will learn

In school education determines what at work you’ll earn

Earning gives you opportunity

To open the doors that are closed to illiteracy

Have your mind set on doing your best

Enjoy playtime but prepare for each test

Crime robs you of fulfilling your goal

Robs you of peacefulness and destroys your soul

Illegal drugs can take many forms, guises to lure you

Make sure to say no to them all and speak with an adult too

Ever bully should be reported how ever hard it seems

Say no to alcohol and don’t let peer pressure take your dreams

Types of abuse is wrong and weapons are bad too

Only with conflict resolution will you control what you do

People taunting you away from your peaceful goal

Put them behind you and take control

Education is not only about books, it’s applying what you know

Respect the law, believe and Yes You Can, cause Charlie says so
