Accused Of Espionage

Mummy told me this story that she heard from a church member. I wrote it in two versions. This version was the first and paints a different image of the camp commander. I remember my time at camp, thankfully never at war. But we play mock wars and it can get very frightening for some. Not only are the missiles and shots loud, the possible carnage is great. You don’t want to be there.

Accused Of Espionage

At night he snuck away and later snuck back

Commander in charge caught him right in his track

Couldn’t believe it but one of his men

Under the cloak of night had been

Spying for the enemy and there was an established drill

Espionage comrades were like enemy and were beyond his will

Deceitful soldiers must face a Court Marshall

Once proven guilty by their peers impartial

Faced an imprisonment for their war crime

Even stood a chance of being locked up for a lifetime

So the Commander asked the soldier again how could he

Put his comrades at such outright jeopardy

“I didn’t!” the soldier said, I went out to pray

Our Father promised he would lead us from harm’s way

Now the Commander told him if you must pray so much

Are you prepared to kneel here and get in touch?”

God!” he prayed, “You’ve given us protection, when I came to you…”

Even the Commander knelt, begged forgiveness and he prayed too!
