God Is Our Salvation

Please accept our warmest sentiments in your time of grieving. It should give you great solace to know that Reverend Canon Frederick Athelbert Walcott, husband, father, family member and friend has in his calm and caring way brought much joy to others and certainly to you. We can all celebrate the life he lived and though some of us may feel as if we didn’t have enough of him here on earth, know that he is off to a better place and in a better day, if we were to live like his shining example, we too can one day be there.

This Acrostic Poem was written to The Walcott Family on the passing of Rev. Canon Frederick Athelbert Walcott.

God Is Our Salvation

Got from him a warm, “How do you do?”

On work days when we met I’d say, “Fine! And you?”

Didn’t measure our words, we spoke freely

I respected him and he respected me

So those times we had leisure and time allowed

Or on times scurrying through the Broad Street crowd

Usually with much interest he’d make searching inquiry

Reciprocating with accounts of his own family

Short but interesting acknowledgements

And we shared joy as we temporarily stalled appointments

Lows and highs, memories now in chaos trapped

Virtually life’s merriment closely capped

Amiably accrued from a friendly guy

Torn quickly, just from grasp, ‘cause he and I didn’t draw nigh

I clearly hoped to talk more regularly, even send a note

Only I did not try and my friend neither, he never wrote

Now he is gone to our Father and I cannot say

Bye for now friend, I’ll see you on that special day!
