An Announcement

The obituaries seemed to give some old people a reassurance. The older you get the more significant these announcements take meaning. I never like listening to them, and especially not when I’m relaxed. I once was having fun and the radio played ion the back ground. Then in the middle of everything I heard the cold morbid announcement “Dead is …!”  My long time friend since primary school was dead and we were just in our thirties.  It hurt that I was having fun and my friend was dead. And the news broadcaster seemed to read it so emotionless! You never know who you will hear met their demise.

An Announcement

At a now old age and scarcely moving around

Nanny spent most of her time sitting down

And she listened everyday to the radio

Noon time keen on the obits for who she might know

Not just the decease but their families too

Obits can give great insight about who is who

Uncle once asked “Elena Lois, must you every day?”

Nothing would ever get in her way

Come this last week, nanny remained ill in bed

Elevated temperature but she still listened for who was dead

Maybe she shouldn’t have, for as she laid still there

Eyes close, motionless and from the radio I could hear

Name was familiar, Elena Lois is dead, left her family

Then I saw nanny’s little finger raised and she gasped “Wooa! Not me!”
