Melicoccus Bijugatus

I always love to eat Ackees.  Every season, I would drive around trying to find some good Ackees. The guys who had good ones last year didn’t always have good ones current years. Sometimes it seems to be when they are picked. But when ever, if they are go, they are really good. I don’t like to seem glutinous but I can consume 200 Ackees in one sitting. I never get enough during a season.

I was just eating a bowl of Ackees when my newspaper girl came. The patio was too wet from the rain for her to put the paper down, so I went out to meet her. I used to be able to juggle eating a Melicoccus Bijugatus and reading but now, I don’t risk it. My reflexes are out of whack from the Multiple Sclerosis in my body. When I finished and got to take my usual glance through at the highlights, I just had to take out my magnifier and read about this family member to Sapindaceae. Thanks for making it possible and for inspiriting the following double Acrostic poem

The Melicoccus Bijugatus

There seems to be a large variety of Ackee breeds

Have some tough to come off and some slip off the seeds

Every Ackee isn’t luscious and some, I rather I didn’t bite

May even be spotty within from over exposure to sunlight

Earlier, when I was very young, they didn’t sell Ackees

Lots of people got them freely from their neighbors’ trees

I never knew much about them except for the old folks tale

Consume a twinny and you will get twins except you were male

Only when I grew up I learnt the trees that don’t bear

Can’t because various trees are male, dah ez wah I hear!

Care was taken to not give children the seed

Until they were conditioned, it was unanimously agreed

So with all this I thought I knew it all

But the Silent Doctors’ article made my knowledge seem small

I never knew of their long list in nutritional value

Juicy, yes, didn’t know you could roast seeds and eat them too

Use the leaves against fleas, who would have guest

Got diarrhea or tonsillitis, try Ackees, it’s even good with IBS

Ackees mean a lot more to me, thanks to your article

Today, just before I read it, I’d had a bowl full

Unknown to me then, I just wanted a treat

Sweet Ackees that come off the seed easily I just love to eat!.
