A Tree Dropped In The Woods

A friend lost her dad recently and like a tree in the woods, I didn’t hear of my fallen friend. I know that I would not have been able to go and celebrate his life with his family but what I wish was that I was able to say something during the family’s time of sorrow. In a tribute from the oldest son that was published in today’s paper, I learnt for the first time that the Reverend left Barbados ever since 1989 to stay in Canada. It has been far too long since I spoke with the family although I did speak with his wife on Mother’s day.

My condolences are extended to the Knight Family.

A Tree Dropped In The Woods

A long time ago I walked a path

That gave me joy at night and in the day a laugh

Remembering it all now I loved being in the wood

Enjoyed the trees that grew in the neighborhood

Every tree played music from their rustle in the breeze

Did hush each still, except a hive of bees

Run sometimes and yelled at the top of my voice

Once, I jumped merrily, like I had no choice

People go by the wood with no reaction on their face

Put no skip, hop or jump, don’t feel the wood’s embrace

Even those with time or those aimlessly walking about

Don’t allow each tree opportunity, their message to shout

I have always done my best even tried to do more

Noticed just as a leaf dropped yet with leaves galore

There is little that can be done to notice them all

Had a big surprise to learn, it’s just as hard to hear a tree fall

Even with the closest watch you may never know

When a precious tree fell and will no longer grow

On that path where I walked along my way

One such tree fell, got the news today

Didn’t go by often enough, but I know where that tree once lie

Sprouts 8 of its own with branches climbing to the sky
