Pic-O-De-Crop Finals

One of the most important competitions during Crop-Over is the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals. It took placed last night and the Bajans were all in a sea of red when Red Plastic Bags performed. The former King had been dethroned by the end of the night and 8 times winner Red Plastic Bag was given his 9th in 2009. Prior to his crowning last night, many people, who hadn’t even heard the songs from the other finalists figured there is none that will beat his Something’s Happening. They were right. He defeated his nearest competitor by almost 30 points. In a competition that sees the other contestants sharing a difference between the 9 of them, his margin was very notable.

Pic-O-De-Crop Finals

Placing 10th in the lineup was Colin Spencer

In 9th position TC, to most, a big shocker

Courageous new comer He Haw was number 8

Old favorite Bumba was 7th and was happy to just participate

Dethroned Monarch AC dropped to number 6

Even Sheldon Hope, who came in 5th had a more successful mix

Calypsonian Sir Ruel took number 4, the former Junior King

Reaching 3rd place was Blood and with a natural swing

Obvious 2nd place was John King’s, from the Big Show

Putting the winning position in RPB’s hands, the artiste we all know

For 8 years he has been King and now this is number 9

It’s a deserving reward for his cool rock and wind

Not many tunes remind us of our Festival the way his has

And the importance of the Home Drum and our Creole jazz

Letting us all feel happy to be part of Crop–Over this year

Something’s Happening and it’s special, happening right here
