Something's Happening

The title of the song, sung by multi-crowned local  Calypso King Red Plastic Bag, though it was not about the subject of my poem here, still brought my attention to this fictitious incident which seems eminent, given the up scale crime in the City of Bridgetown.

None of us wants to see such unnecessary carnage but we must be wary of its possibility. What do we do to prepare ourselves for this , or should we fight harder to prevent it.

Something’s Happening

So many people in the street

One thing controlling their feet

Mass chaos is in the air

Exploding our atmosphere

There are adults and children too

How many people, no one knew

I see trampling as the people scurry

Nobody is stopping to worry

Getting away is first on their mind

cause staying seems to threatens mankind

Soon above the noise, a loud burst

Hurrying got more but not without some screams first

And then suddenly

People, we could see

Panicking, shouting, “Gun!” It was gun shots

Eagerly, some people with little red spots

Not hurt, but splashed with blood spray

It was a dark, brutal day

Nothing like this has ever happened before

Gunshots tormented the city just at a quarter past four
