Middle Uh De Road

This Calypso title reminded me of a story I learnt earlier about a child that wondered away from one of the Government Summer Camps. Every story has some truth to it and although I haven’t heard man official report of this incident, the source was so close to the incident and so close to me that I had little reason to doubt it.

Imagine finding a five year old little girl walking on a highway, in the middle of the road. This was a blessing

Middle Uh De Road

My niece told me this little girl, only five

Is today lucky to be alive

Day campers lost her and hours later she was found

Dreary and stumbling, on the highway bound

Little girl had travelled miles on her own

Every since lunch time she’d been walking alone

Unable to find anyone she knew

Had no cover from the heat, poor little Sue

Didn’t stop crying when they found her, she held up her dress

Eager to take it off her clothes and get her mother’s caress

Roaming in the heat deprived her of much

Only thing that could comfort her was her mother’s touch

And so the consolers called for her mummy

Day camp has many adventures but this one was agony
