Am I My Neighbors' Keeper?

If we can first solve the problems within our homes and then our neighborhood, we are that much closer to solving the ills of our country and eventually the world. But, so many of us are stumped in our own homes and resolving problems with the neighbor are impossible

Am I My Neighbors’ Keeper?

And who is my neighbor, asked the old Bajan

Many years ago I heard the story of the great Samaritan

I remembered this story and always tried to be

Mannerly with all and to all show charity

Yet, with all I tried, the family next door

Never appreciated my kinship and hated my family more

Every kindness was rebuffed and spoken words scoffed

I tried to make eye contact but they held their eyes aloft

Goodland used to be a good land and easy to live

How changed it is now, people’s hearts never forgive

Bajans used to be courteous to each other and used to care

Once before you could expect cooperation throughout the year

Recently there was and argument which was never resolved

So I spoke to my neighbors, all who were involved

Kind words only, to bring an end to the impasse

Ended only their tolerance to hear me when I walk pass

Eventually it escalated to stones and knives

Pleads were futile and a back stabber threatened lives

Emergency care never saved Sheena after the old lady stabbed her

Regrettably Lord they still feud, so tell me, Am I My Neighbors' Keeper?
