Singing On The Big Stage

A novice had prepared to sing for years and was ready for the big stage, until they realized that it was not as easy as walking out and letting it all happen. Sometimes people think it is the large crowd and their noise but more often it is the silence that gets you.

Sometimes when the stage goes all black through the transition you feel all alone

Singing On The Big Stage

Semifinals night and it was soon my time to go out

I wasn’t scared of the brass band or the lights about

Neither did I tremble from the large crowd

Got no trepidation when they screamed out loud

I was prepared from the months in the tent

Now I was ready from that time I’d spent

Going to give these virgin ears a taste of my skill

Once they hear me they will

Never want the traditional Kaiso

The satirical double entendre they think they know

Have a newness to please so the crowd didn’t bother me

Everyone would be craving more of my new artistry

But the noise stopped when they called me on

I didn’t hear a whisper from the crowd, they seemed gone

Gone with the band too, cause behind my back

So little was visible, everything was black

Then a drum roll to introduce my first bar

And all my confidence seeped, and I missed the guitar

Got no lyrics to come out and my feet were heavy

Entertaining on a big stage is not what I thought it would be
