The Rail Thunder

Two trains collided in Washington DC yesterday and are considered to be one of the worst Metro crashes in history, sure the worst crash in DC. Up to the time of writing this there were 9 deaths and dozens of casualties many of who were themselves very serious. However we look at technology there is always some inherent danger in travel rather by train, airplane, ship or car. We cannot prevent all deaths and even during the years of supposed safe travel, deaths were still recorded. My sympathies to the families and friends of those on board the trains involved in this head on  collision.

The Rail Thunder

They sat waiting to depart in the train

Heard a roar of thunder then heard nothing again

Everything was quiet yet all around

Rubble and debris laid on the ground

And then the quiet was lost, you could hear the shout

Injured travelers were trying to get out

Little was known but one certainty

This crash was the worst in Washington’s history

Head on collision injuring over 70 and killing nine

Unknown cause so far but investigations will find

No crash is without some degree of human error

Derailing is always possible and train travel a terror

Electronics and computers can only do so much

Real thunder is harmless and would not have done such
