The Handful of Sand

Kevin Hinds was on Fireworks this afternoon and he introduce himself as someone who now knows all of his true friends. He said his dad had given him from very early and analogy of how to determine the number of friends he will have which remained with him all these years

The Handful Of Sand

Take a handful of sand and what do you see

Hundreds, even thousands of grains maybe

Every one my dad said represents a friend

Hold out your palm and shake and then

A closer look and count them again

Notice how many you have, hardly a grain

Do this to determine friends that are true

Friends will fall away but true friends will stick to you

Under this testing I grabbed a handful of sand

Let go and shook away then checked my hand

Only, I must have grabbed sand that was too dry

For none stood in my hand, I felt to cry

Sand grains denote my friends said KB Kleen

And all I tried, I had none as I had seen

Now many years afterwards and alone I wonder if I

Did it wrong, so tomorrow I’ll go again to the beach and try
