Lonely At The Top

My dad finally became the head and soon had no time for family. We saw him very infrequently and although we understood why it hurt. But he seemed to feel the pain of it more than we did. We enjoyed the comforts his job had given us and the many perks of being the most popular family in the land but none of this took the burden off my dad’s shoulders.

Lonely At The Top

Last night was much the same

Only heard my mom call my father’s name

Nights find him working all alone

Every night he calls mom on the phone

Long ago we shared dinner and he tucked me in

Years ago my dad aspired to win

And now he has won I feel there’s a loss

The family dinners and kisses at night gone now he’s the boss

The many supporters expect to be his priority

His loyalty for them, they think, transcends family

Even though my daddy works hard and long

There is always time to guide us from doing wrong

On those times when it’s necessary, his work he will allay

Play with me or pray with me so dad, Happy Father’s Day!
