Like Father Like Me

My dad’s popularity made it easier to grow to success. Ever where I went they embrace the child of this known celebrity. This man who had done so much to lay a stake on his stardom that no one questioned its legitimacy. I basked in the light of his glow eventhough not always deliberately. Sometimes it’s tuff living up to the standard that has set but most of the time I was glad to walk on the brick that carefully charted my success.

Like Father Like Me

Life was easier because I got his name

I was recognized through my father’s early fame

Kept careful check of the steps I made

Every footprints from his path had started to fade

Footprints he made many years ago

Affixed paths and suppressed where failure used to grow

Today because I followed carefully

He guided me posthumously

Each year he was gone I continued on

Right turn, left turn from dust till dawn

Life was easier, my dad laid the bricks

I just skipped through and enjoyed the kicks

Kept on course until soon I had successes too

Enjoyed the path as my prosperity grew

My life was easier because he carved the way

Even though he is gone I’ll celebrate Father’s Day!
