When Obama Met Lara

The Fifth Summit of the Americas which took place in Trinidad on April 17-19, 200p was most eventful. But of all the news that I have seen and heard, only on thing brought the kind of smile that I had today. The photograph of the Prince and President together on the mat at the recently re-named Obama Terrace, Hilton Trinidad, St Ann's, on Sunday. Brian Lara gave President Barack Obama an autograph cricket bat inscribed with: "To the President of the United States, Barack Obama, in appreciation of your visit to T&T. Best Wishes".

When Obama Met Lara

West Indies Legend Brian Lara

Had an invitation from President Barack Obama

Envious observers who gazed the photographs

Now wish to have been there, in on the laughs

Obama impressed “Prince” Lara with his personality

Boasted he’d always wanted to meet this Caribbean celebrity

And said Lara was “the Michael Jordan of Cricket”

Michael Jordan, who to all Americans is heroic

America’s President received an autographed bat

Marked with appreciation and there on a welcoming mat

Engaged in stroke playing, the pupil and the teacher

Titans, this President and “Prince” had seemed together

Lots were in Trinidad for the Fifth Summit of the Americas

And yet few were able to create such a lasting buzz

Reports of Chavez’ book was stiff and unfriendly

And no photo so far has been more memorable to me
