The Price Of Progress

If I had the opportunity, I would have chosen to live in Belize or a similar country. I love Barbados but it still is a concrete jungle for me. Almost ever house is paved right around with cement and there are few plants along our highways. I adore greenery and was always a ecology hobbyist.

I don’t want to suffer death at the bite of some poisonous snake or the jaws of a jaguar but I would like it less to be shot by my fellow Man.

The Price Of Progress

There is no dollar value on retrospect

How we were and the things we’d forget

Economies thought bad now seemingly great

Praedial larceny still in an infantile state

Remember trips to the islands where on the roof tops

Installed tanks were made to catch the rain drops

Communities valued this water from their only source

Extravagance now waste water from domestic course

Our lives of lavishness find us making a 180 turn

Following pathways to old customs we gladly yearn

People build large windows to let in the light

Rail drapes to block it when things seem too bright

Our decisions for progress is tempered with craves

Guises pursued to satisfy fleeting pleasures and raves

Risking years of our civilization to spend wasteful time

Erecting colossuses on foundations of dirt and slime

Some progress drains our communities of morality

So is it really progress if the result is incivility?
