Ash Wednesday

Today is one of those days that present some discordance in the Christian Calendar. Both sides of the fence believe in Easter and therefore, holding the fist day of Lent doesn’t seem too much a problem. What is the real trouble is the custom of placing ashes upon your body in celebration of this time. In Mathew 6:16-18 Jesus made His position clear about fasting.

Ash Wednesday

Adventist say this practice is pagan

Scriptures don’t support it, so take heed Bajan

Holy Savior didn’t advocate that we

Wear ashes on our foreheads to show solidarity

Exalt the Lord but not like the hypocrites

Don’t look dismal and wear your body in fits

Never let your brothers see that you fast

Endorse God’s love but not with this pagan mast

So many celebrate this day, the first day of Lent

Dependent on Easter, 46 days prior till Easter it is spent

And so, in acknowledgement of Easter, in a Christian way

You can still recognize each other and say Happy Ash Wednesday
