Watch Dog Duty

The Akita’s are so loyal and take their duty seriously. I think that this breed makes for one of the finest watch dogs. They are not half as noisy as other breeds and often don’t usher a warning call. They are catlike on their feet and I still can’t understand how they catch birds. I call our white Akita the silent assassin because of the number of silent kills now on record. Frostie doesn’t seem to mind and even seems proud hearing me recount the many kills to friends.

Watch Dog Duty

When she went out she left her on her own

Akita’s white coat was still long like it had grown

The walk had slowed over the last year

Could hardly run but still, intruder beware

Had an unusual day and a sleepless night

Dysplasia seemed worse, in fact nothing seemed right

Ordinary food taken but wanted to abstain

Gagged and cough and it was out again

Didn’t think patrolling would come easy today

Uncontrolled falling and a fever that wouldn’t go away

There was much wonder and great uncertainty

You would understand why she left her mom on Watch Dog Duty
