Janet Layne Clarke

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Janet Layne Clarke whose untimely death came this morning and was announced by local radio stations. I feel somewhat dismayed because she, in the form of Lick Mout Lou, was a regular participant in my family’s weekly talks and we never were given the opportunity of saying the prayer of healing for her. I offer this Acrostic Poem to her wide circle of family, friends and readers

Janet Layne Clarke

Journey dear friend to your eternal place

And may you be in our Savior’s embrace

No one can ever play the role she played

Educated so many and the laughs she made

There is a great feeling of National sympathy

Lost of Mother and friend, colleague and celebrity

And what ever the race, creed or age

Young and old alike have taken a leaf from her page

National journalists, broadcasters and reporters too

Experienced her criticism and bettered what they do

Critiques on behavior, protocol and often literary

Lickmout Lou wud ‘rite like she did one uh we

And still she commanded perfect English

Reading like a BBC broadcaster on her vocational dish

Kind lady, who cared for detail and whose work didn’t cease

Eff I wuz able tah, I wud geh you God’s Eternal Peace!

I loved the poem, and it is a great tribute to a wonderful storyteller. I never met Janet Layne-Clarke, but I loved her stories. She inspired me to write!
