What Ever Happened .......

As children we experimented with all the preparations that led up to Christmas. We learnt them all through the enjoyment of doing them all together. My siblings all got along well enough to walk to school together and make long hikes together. We sang the words from the musicals like Oliver and Song of Music. Our Sundays were spent listening to Mario Lanza, Jim Reeves, Mahalia Jackson and many more of the other Classic Singers. When Christmas came our elation and love for music and togetherness were even greater. Now we have grown and things have changed

What Ever Happened ……

We used to ask the painter for a brush

Have to move with gentle strokes, he said not to rush

And in the kitchen we’ll beg to lick the spoon

The bowl after baking was like a trip to the moon

Excitement came from looking for that perfect seashell

Various smooth rocks and colored berries that fell

Eggshells washed and used to decorate the tree

Ribbons draped from the top and the star hung by me

How beautiful it was to wake with the fresh smell

Aroma of pine and like a new rain just fell

Perhaps I will never see another Christmas like back then

People don’t fuss the same on becoming women and men

Except we have a tradition to uphold

Now we must pass on Christmas to the young from the old

Every child should enjoy what we used to share

Delight in the Christmas Season and have a Happy New Year
