Pigeon Peas

Once upon a time, every house in my neighborhood had a pea tree and picking peas was a major dread for the young. It must have been our dislike for picking and shelling these peas that we have not been planting them, the tradition died with our grandparents. But now, we pay lots to get a pint of peas and one year I remember even asking a friend to bring some in from the States. Imagine coming in for Christmas and not bringing chocolates or mixed nuts but rather bringing Pigeon Peas.

Pigeon Peas

Pint of peas please

I hear dem calling fah these

Got to get some

Especially for mum

One pint for her recipe

Needed to make Jug Jug for me

People love this Christmas dish

Eat it up on ever visit as they wish

And few can do it in my mother’s way

So, a pint of peas please, mum’s making Jug for Christmas Day
