I Drink Sorrel

I only start liking the Sorrel drink when I became an adult. You know how sometimes you have to have an acquired taste? Well, sorrel was this way for me. But, the drink that I get nowadays is not reminiscent of the one from earlier days. Maybe the mixing has changed. If I were you I would give sorrel a second try and a third and a forth and……..

I Drink Sorrel

It’s grown, picked when ripe then

Dried naturally until the leaves are browning

Red when ripe so you will know

It’s time to pick them from where they grow

Now from what I recall they are covered in hot water

Kept steeping for days before it’s finally over

Steeping draws out the strength to make the drink

Once steeped it deep red and will stain like ink

Ready for sugar, you add to you taste

Rich sorrel is sweetened slowly and not stirred with haste

Everyone likes it chilled and freezing with ice

Liquored Sorrel on Christmas Day can be very nice
