Can Smell The Ham

Christmas has some unmistakable scents

A fresh coat of paint, a touch of pine coming from the vents 

Newly polished furniture and glazed varnish floors

Some poinsettia drifting in each breeze under the doors

My sensors are heightened again and again

Each plant’s fresh bloom, the corner Snow on the Mountain

Lots of home made breads and tempting cookies

Lurking fragrant of coconut bread and oven baked brownies

There is so much that smells like this time of the year

Home and work have it all in the air

Each smell is differently welcomed but the best of all

Hams baked with cloves, dressed in pineapple, through the hall

At this season there are smells and glitz, gifts and good cheer
