Fools And Fences

The last episode I saw of one of my favorite oldies “Little House On The Prairie” didn’t only bring smiles and tears, it inspired this poem. As usually it doesn’t speak to the poem directly but this one phrase from Charles Ingles was memorable.

Fools and Fences

Footpath disrupted by barbwire fence

Out in the woods where the bush is dense

Over where you would least expect

Laid by the thoughtless to protect

Some others lay fences so high we can’t see

All the beauty beyond their periphery

Never giving thought to who they keep out

Don’t stop to think who walks about

Fixing fences cause for scrupulous thought

Erecting them in places where we ought naught

Never serves anyone but cause others dismay

Creating barriers to prevent others free passage way

Even when you think you have thought it through

Scrutinized it again because there’s much harm you can do.
