Domestic Violence

I was just watching the news on television and a lady cae on speaking about Domestic Violence. This topic has always been a concern to me and although I know that we leave out the men because the number of male victims is so much fewer than females I can’t help but remember those men in my life that were abused. I have deliberately kept this poem gender neuter.

Domestic Violence

Don’t bring violent behavior into a domicile

Or speak in a way other than docile

Meekness is blessed as so it should be

Everyone should coexist in the home harmoniously

Show love and listen and constantly strive

To keep peace in your home alive

It wasn’t so long ago that you shared a smile

Can you remember, it was only a little while

Violence crept in and harmony went out

It’s hard to remember a day you didn’t shout

Or when that hand wasn’t being clench

Lashes wielded, shattered glasses or that broken bench

Everyone deserves to be treated with civility

No shouting, cuffs, slaps or abuse done silently

Co inhabitation means more than sharing a residence

Everyone co inhabiting should live free from Domestic Violence
