Just Ten Days Ago

On November 4, this year 2008, the whole world watched as Barack Obama made history and they celebrated. November was a time for me to celebrate for years now. I remember as if it were yesterday, my friend having her 25th Birthday. We celebrated that night with a beach party, the first for me. I had some unforgettable meat balls and that night was unmatched. Ever year on her birthday, I remember that night, then her smile and her dimple and the rest of her family. There is much distance between us now and she has a whole new life with her beloved husband and new friends but I will always celebrate this date, with 14 lines, remembering

Just Ten Days Ago

Jubilation was rampant in every country

United States had elected a Black to Presidency

So for years the world will remember the date

That changed the course of racism's fate

Though I’ll celebrate it, 10 days afterwards mean more

Elation comes to me like other times before

November always brings you here again

Didn’t blur from Obama’s feud with McCain

All the world waited for History to be realize’

Your dimpled smile was what was coming to my eyes

Smile again for me dear friend and here I’ll see

An image of your splendor with you in your glee

God be with you and may these 14 lines on the 14th say

Ooh la la! Dear Friend, have a Blessed Birthday!
