Patients' Patience
There is no doubt
that something is wrong with the organization the clinics in our main Hospital.
Today it was the eye clinic which I casually visited and the anticoagulant where
I was an appointed patient. This visit used to take 15 minutes or less but
today it was a stressful 4 hours. In spite of all the ailments and their
severity, patients demonstrated a heightened sense of humility. People should
never be taken advantage of and the fact that these ailing individuals did not
make their disgusts publicly known, is no reason to repeat this chaotic
practice. There must be a more effective and efficient way to run these
departments.
Imagine your agony
to climb to the top of a 4 flight staircase, arriving in a room packed area
with only standing space in the corridors, no doctor arriving until 10:45am
even though some people were there as early as 8:30am, having to forego a
luncheon break although you were already weaken from the ambience and finally
seeing a doctor for 2mins, the time it takes to repeat your prescription. Why
are the sick being punished?

Patients’ Patience People
sometimes show strange generosity At times
when you least expect this oddity They say
Sir, Madam, please, excuse me and thank you In times
when they were waiting there for hours too Emergency
rooms are different but in the clinic No one
seems pressured with uncertainty or panic They
willingly exchange deep concern Show empathy
with intimacy they soon will learn Placed in a
hot room with no where to sit All the
patients took to the corridors out of habit They used
chairs from the rooms nearby I stood for
30mins before I was offered one by a guy Eventually
I learnt of his diseased heart Noticed a
lady who if she could stand from hers would part Cancers,
diabetes and heart disorders may afflict their bodies Even after
4 uncomfortable hours they kept polite faculties |
