Smokey Burke

There was an old poem that taught about the tone of voice and it used the word “come” to demonstrate that one come may get a child to come running while the other may get the child to go running scared. Smokey Burke’s O Henry may have even greater scope. I wonder if you are up to the varied O Henry’s here

Smokey Burke

She shouted O Henry and I came running

My girl was crossed and her O Henry was showing

O Henry she disapprovingly shook her head

Kissing me her O Henry anxiously invited me to bed

Erotically her O Henry told me I had no choice

You should have heard the O Henry in surprised voice

But her sensually gratified slow O Henry

Unleash the animal I had in me

Repeat my name, I said, say it again

Keep saying it like a chorus refrain

Every time I heard O Henry she had changed her groan

Never new O Henry had such an appealing tone
