Indestructible

The people of Barbados, led off by Prime Minister David Thompson, offer their condolences to the people of China who suffered a major earthquake recently, by signing a book of sympathy to demonstrate their show of solidarity. The hearts of our people and surely the world at large go out to these Asian neighbors and though we share in the pain of this catastrophe, we certainly share in the joy of those who survived, especially those who rational minds may have given up hope but persistence of families and a caring people rescued many upwards to today, 9 days after this tragedy.

Indestructible

Imagine the morning comes and you don’t eat

Night follows the evening and your fates repeat

Dinner time, lunch and breakfast time past but she

Especially wanted to see daylight, night stars, anybody

She had been trapped for days but was protected

Trapped in a natural haven that was cosseted

Rumblings above this tunnel told her of the calamity

Underground hungry and dehydrated in this catastrophe

Could barely breathe the oxygen was thin

There was no room to walk, turn over or for stretching

It’s been 9 days and new noises were heard

Boulders being moved and in the distance a bird

Loud chants ripped away all her pain

Earthquake caused her ruin but earthmovers gave life again
